WHAT IS ROSACEA?
- Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness to form across the nose and cheeks.
WHAT AGGRAVATE ROSACEA?
- Sun exposure
- Stress
- Overheating
- Hot beverages
- Alcohol
- Spicy food
- Certain skin and hair care products
- Certain medicine
- Excessive wind and cold
- High intensity exercise
HOW TO PREVENT ROSACEA FLARE-UPS?
- In addition to seeing a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatments people can help themselves by identifying and avoiding the things that can cause flare ups.
USE SUN PROTECTION
- Use sun screen with SPF 30 or more that contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
- Use umbrella / scarf while going out in sun
REDUCE STRESS
- Find activity that relieves your stress.
- Do something that you enjoy on daily bases
- Keep taking deep breath, hold it and exhale slowly.
AVOID OVERHEATING
- Take warm baths and showers rather than hot ones.
- Use cold cloth, sip a cold drink, keep cool with a fan or air conditioning.
- Stay far from heaters and other heat sources
- Keep your body cool while working in kitchen.
SAY ‘NO’ TO HOT BEVERAGES
- Avoid drinking hot coffee or tea or other beverages. instead try cold tea or cold coffee.
LIMIT ALCOHOL
- Try to limit alcohol 1 to 2 drinks only and have a large glass of cold water after each drink
- Use white wine instead of red wine.
- Add soda or lemonade to white wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages to lessen the amount of alcohol
- Not drinking alcohol is the best option
AVOID SPICY FOOD
- Eat milder version of food.
- To avoid all spicy food is the best option
SELECT SKIN AND HAIRE CARE PRODUCT CAREFULLY
- See a dermatologist who can give you skin care plan for rosacea and recommend products.
- Do not use products that contains harmful preservatives and fragrance
- Apply mild, fragrance free moisturiser to your skin before applying makeup
- Use light liquid based foundation that can spread easily instead of heavy foundation.
CHECK OUT YOUR MEDICINE
- Some medicine that may worsen rosacea include those used in the treatment of:
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety
- Migraines
- Glaucoma
- Vitamin B3 may also trigger rosacea flare ups
PROTECT FACE FROM EXCESSIVE WIND AND COLD
- Windburn is common in rosacea prone skin. A wind burn can trigger a rosacea flare ups especially in winter.
- Cover your face with scarf
- Use rosacea friendly sunscreen and moisturiser
- Limit going outdoors.
KEEP YOUR BODY COOL WHILE EXERCISING
- Keep intensity low or medium
- Try exercise in water (aqua aerobics, swimming in cool water)
- Do exercise in air conditioned room
- Use cool water / ice soaked towel while doing exercise to cool you down
